About Us

Institute for Vegetable Crops has been founded in the 1946. It consists of Genetics and Breeding Department, Plant Physiology and Agro-technology Department, Plant Pathology Department (which are a part of Research Division) and a Seed Production Department.

The Institute has 63 employees, of which 15 are researchers with scientific degree. The research programs are dealing with genetic and breeding of vegetable crops, vegetable physiology and agrotechnic as well as vegetable phytopathology. In the research work scientists apply current scientific achivements in practice and most of the resaearch programs have the practical use. The stuff in the research programs also work on the scientific projects financed by Serbian Ministry of Science and Development.

The Institute has 150ha of arable land with the irrigation system, greenhouse and plastic house for growing vegetable; laboratories for plant tissue culture; phyto-pathological laboratory; laboratory for chemical and genetic research and accredited laboratory for seed quality control as well as phytotron chambers. The Institute also has all necessary agricultural machines, warehouse and machines for seed processing and packing.

Considering the stuff structure and work organization, number of new vegetable varieties created and its importance in the market, the Institute for Vegetable Crops is one of the leading scientific and seed production institutions in Serbia today.
